The Drina River, which flows through Bosnia and Herzegovina, has become a symbol of the country's troubled past. During the Bosnian War in the 1990s, the river was a site of many atrocities, including the massacre of thousands of Bosnian Muslims. In recent years, the river has also been the site of a number of drownings, as people have tried to cross the river illegally in search of a better life.

The following testimonies from people who have witnessed or experienced these events provide a glimpse into the ongoing tragedy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"I saw them kill my family."

Amira is a Bosnian Muslim woman who survived the Srebrenica massacre in 1995. She was 16 years old at the time. She witnessed the execution of her parents and her two younger brothers. She was the only member of her family to survive.

"I saw them kill my family," she said. "They lined them up against a wall and shot them. I was hiding in a bush nearby. I watched them die."

Amira has never been able to return to Srebrenica. She now lives in a refugee camp in Bosnia. She says she is haunted by the memories of that day.

"I lost my husband and children in the Drina River."

Fatima is a Bosnian Muslim woman who lost her husband and two children in the Drina River in 1992. She was trying to flee the fighting in her village when she and her family were caught in a crossfire. Her husband and children were killed instantly. She was the only one who survived.

"I lost everything that day," she said. "My husband, my children, my home. I have nothing left."

Fatima now lives in a refugee camp in Bosnia. She says she has no hope for the future. "I have no reason to go on," she said. "I have nothing left to live for."

"I tried to cross the Drina River illegally, but I was caught."

Ahmed is a young Bosnian man who tried to cross the Drina River illegally in 2015. He was trying to reach Europe in search of a better life. He was caught by the Croatian police and sent back to Bosnia.

"I was desperate," he said. "I had no other choice. I had to try to cross the river. I knew it was dangerous, but I didn't have any other options."

Ahmed says he is now afraid to try to cross the river again. He knows that if he is caught, he will be sent back to Bosnia. He says he is stuck in limbo. He has no future in Bosnia, but he is also afraid to leave.

The Drina River is a symbol of the tragedy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a river of blood and tears. It is a river of hope and despair. It is a river that divides and unites. It is a river that will never be forgotten.

The testimonies of Amira, Fatima, and Ahmed provide a glimpse into the ongoing tragedy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The country has been torn apart by war and ethnic conflict. Millions of people have been displaced from their homes. Thousands have been killed. The country is still struggling to come to terms with its past and to build a better future.

The Drina River is a reminder of the pain and suffering that has been inflicted on Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a symbol of the country's troubled past and its uncertain future. But it is also a symbol of hope. The river continues to flow, and it will continue to flow even when the pain and suffering are gone.
