Charlotte has always been a bit of a rebel. She loves to ride horses, fence, and read books that are considered inappropriate for ladies. She's also not afraid to speak her mind, which has gotten her into trouble on more than one occasion.
Rotherwood is everything that Charlotte is not. He's handsome, charming, and comes from a wealthy and powerful family. He's also a bit of a rake, and Charlotte knows that he's not looking for anything serious.
But when Rotherwood starts to pursue Charlotte, she finds herself falling for him despite herself. She knows that he's not the right man for her, but she can't seem to help herself.
As Charlotte and Rotherwood's relationship grows more intense, Charlotte's secret threatens to come out. She knows that if Rotherwood finds out about her past, he'll never forgive her. But she also knows that she can't keep her secret forever.
In the end, Charlotte must make a choice. She can either risk her heart and tell Rotherwood the truth, or she can keep her secret safe and live with the consequences.
An Excerpt from Pursued by the Viscount
Charlotte was sitting in the library, reading a book, when Rotherwood entered. He was dressed in a dark blue coat and breeches, and his hair was neatly combed. He looked very handsome, and Charlotte felt a flutter in her heart.
"Good afternoon, Lady Charlotte," Rotherwood said with a bow.
"Good afternoon, Viscount Rotherwood," Charlotte replied, putting down her book. "What brings you to the library?"
"I was looking for you," Rotherwood said. "I wanted to ask you if you would care to join me for a walk in the gardens."
Charlotte hesitated for a moment. She knew that she should probably refuse, but she couldn't resist the temptation to spend more time with Rotherwood.
"I would be delighted," she said.
Charlotte and Rotherwood walked through the gardens, talking and laughing. Charlotte found herself enjoying Rotherwood's company more than she had ever enjoyed anyone's company before. He was intelligent, witty, and charming, and he made her feel like she could be herself around him.
As they walked, Charlotte couldn't help but wonder what would happen if she told Rotherwood her secret. Would he be disgusted by her? Would he reject her? Or would he understand and accept her for who she was?
Charlotte didn't know the answer, but she knew that she couldn't keep her secret forever. She had to tell Rotherwood the truth, and she had to do it soon.
