Early life and career

Cocker was born in Sheffield, England, on May 20, 1944. He began singing in local pubs and clubs as a teenager and formed his first band, The Avengers, in 1960. The Avengers released several singles but failed to achieve commercial success.

In 1964, Cocker joined The Grease Band, a blues-rock band led by Chris Stainton. The Grease Band released two albums, "With a Little Help from My Friends" (1969) and "Joe Cocker!" (1970),which helped to establish Cocker as a major star.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen

In 1970, Cocker embarked on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, a massive undertaking that featured a cast of over 40 musicians and singers. The tour was a critical and commercial success and helped to cement Cocker's reputation as one of the most exciting live performers of his generation.

The Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour was also notable for its drug and alcohol abuse, which Cocker later admitted had a negative impact on his health and career.

Solo career

After the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour, Cocker went on to have a successful solo career. He released a number of hit singles, including "Delta Lady" (1970),"Unchain My Heart" (1982),and "You Can Leave Your Hat On" (1986).

Cocker also appeared in several films, including "The Five Heartbeats" (1991) and "Across the Universe" (2007).

Later years

In the 1990s and 2000s, Cocker continued to tour and record music. He released several albums, including "Have a Little Faith" (1994),"Organic" (1996),and "Hymn for My Soul" (2004).

Cocker died of lung cancer on December 22, 2014, at the age of 70.

Legacy

Joe Cocker was one of the most iconic and influential singers of his generation. His powerful and emotive vocals helped to define the sound of rock and blues music in the 1960s and 1970s.

Cocker's music continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world. He is remembered as a true legend of rock and roll.
