Hill was born in England in 1915. He emigrated to Australia with his family in 1927. He worked as a jackaroo and a gold miner before joining the Australian Army in 1941. Hill was assigned to the 2/2nd Independent Company, a unit of Coastwatchers.
Coastwatchers were responsible for gathering intelligence on enemy activity. They operated behind enemy lines, often in remote and dangerous areas. Hill was sent to the Solomon Islands, where he established a network of informants. He provided valuable intelligence on Japanese troop movements, ship movements, and airfields.
Hill's intelligence was essential to the Allied victory in the Solomon Islands. He helped to plan the Allied landings on Guadalcanal, which turned the tide of the war in the Pacific. Hill also provided intelligence that helped to sink several Japanese ships.
Hill's work was extremely dangerous. He was often hunted by the Japanese, and he had several close calls. In one incident, he was captured by the Japanese but managed to escape. Hill continued to operate behind enemy lines until the end of the war.
After the war, Hill returned to Australia and worked as a farmer. He died in 1999 at the age of 84. Hill was a hero of the Pacific War, and his contributions to the Allied victory should never be forgotten.
