1. Tune your ukulele. Use a tuner to tune your ukulele to the standard tuning (GCEA).
2. Hold the ukulele. Hold the ukulele with your left hand, with your thumb on the back of the neck and your fingers on the strings. Your right hand should be free to strum.
3. Strum the ukulele. Use a pick or your thumb to strum the strings. Start by strumming down on the strings, then up.
4. Play your first chords. We'll start with the C chord and the G chord. To play the C chord, place your index finger on the first fret of the second string, your middle finger on the second fret of the third string, and your ring finger on the third fret of the fourth string. To play the G chord, place your index finger on the second fret of the first string, your middle finger on the third fret of the second string, and your ring finger on the little finger on the third fret of the third string.
